Backpacking

There's something about spending a night in the backcountry that a day hike just can't replicate — the light at camp, cooking dinner with the peaks around you, waking up somewhere most people never make it to. Our guided backpacking trips run in the Bear River Range and Mt. Naomi Wilderness, with routes into places like White Pine Lake, Steam Mill Lake and High Creek Lake, right here in northern Utah's Cache Valley mountains. We handle the logistics so you can just enjoy being out there.

Never been backpacking before?  We cover everything you need to know — how to pack, what to eat, how to set up camp, water treatment, navigation basics, and Leave No Trace practices.  If you're already comfortable in the backcountry and just want good company and a well-planned route, we can do that too.

All meals are included — dinner, breakfast, and trail snacks — and we put real effort into the food. Every trip is guided by Bear River Mountain Guides under our USFS Special Use Permit on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Want something longer, a different route, or a custom objective? Reach out and we'll build it.

FAQ:

Do I need backpacking experience? No — our intro trip is specifically designed for first-timers. We'll walk you through everything before and during the trip.

How fit do I need to be? Reasonably fit and comfortable walking several miles with a pack. We'll match the route to your group — just be honest with us when you reach out and we'll set you up for a great time, not a suffer-fest.

What gear do I need to bring? Hiking boots, layered clothing, and personal items. We provide all the camping gear — pack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and cooking equipment — or you can bring your own and save a little on the gear fee.

How heavy will my pack be? Typically 25–35 lbs with the gear package, lighter if you bring your own. We keep things as streamlined as possible.

What if the weather turns? We monitor conditions closely leading up to every trip and will reach out if anything changes. We offer a money back guarantee if we cancel due to weather.
